Traditional animation
Until the time that computers were invented, the
traditional animation method was used where there were multiple drawings, each
slightly different than the first. These were then traced or photocopied onto
transparent acetate sheets and coloured with paint. Each drawing was photographed
onto motion picture film against a painted background.

Stop Motion
Physically manipulating real world objects and
photographing them one frame at a time – creating the impression of movement is
stop motion animation. There are a lot of different types of stop motion
animation, most of them named after the medium used to create the animation. E.g.
